I adore Disney, but Universal just gets me. We were so excited to go to Universal Studios and spend the whole day here. We took the earliest shuttle from our hotel and got there for opening; had the pictures taken with the iconic signs and then we were ready to go in.
We started the day at Production Central and went on Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit. This roller coaster was insane, it includes on-ride music that you pick before taking off, and for once it was Barney that felt sick after it not me! We then went on Despicable Me Minion Mayhem and Shrek 4D, these rides are basically the same, but it was cool to see and feel all the special effects. Transformers: The Ride-3D was next, and I enjoyed this a lot more as it felt more of a ride than just a show. We also managed to meet Optimus Prime, and I have to say I fangirled a little bit.
We made our way to New York where we went on Race Through New York starring Jimmy Fallon which felt a lot like Soarin’ over in Disney. I like these types of rides, but I much prefer a rollercoaster. That’s why when we next went on Revenge of the Mummy, I thoroughly enjoyed it. This is an enclosed rollercoaster and one we went on many times because I loved it! We took a little break from rides to watch The Blues Brothers show, and it was amazing! We love this type of music and are big fans of the film, so we had to get involved and dance along to this!
I just loved the theming throughout this park; it just makes you feel as though you are always on a film set. We made our way to San Franciso and went on Fast & Furious – Supercharged. I had heard a lot about this ride, and it was quite newly open, but to me, it didn’t live up to the hype. As you know, I love a traditional rollercoaster, and I feel Universal need to invest more in these instead of new 3D/4D simulators. We bumped into the Jaws shark, which was so life-like!
We skipped past the Diagon Alley side of The Wizarding World of Harry Potter to make sure we saw everything else Universal Studios had to offer. But don’t worry, we made time for it at the end of the day! We took more pictures and of course, went on Escape from Gringotts again!
Our next ride was Men in Black Alien Attack, and it was so nostalgic! I loved this film growing up, and Barney said it is one of the classic rides at Universal. It is an interactive shooting game, and again the queue for this is so good!
We made our way to Springfield: Home of the Simpsons and I loved it here! For someone who grew up watching The Simpsons every weekday at 6 pm, it was crazy to think I was here! I, of course, had pictures with Milhouse, Chief Wiggum and the Jebediah Springfield and Lard Lad donuts statues! We visited Moes and finally went on The Simpsons Ride.
If you’re a fan of ET, you’ll love the ET Adventure ride. I loved the concept of being on the bike for this ride; we were luckily front row so managed to see the little ET pop up in our basket in front of us. I’ve only seen this film a few times, but after going on this ride, it made me really want to rewatch it!
We ended the day by taking a walk down Hollywood (I loved the theming even more here)! We took pictures with the Mystery Machine and outside Mel’s Drive-In, which is an Instagram dream and had the biggest dinner at Hard Rock Café!
Have you ever been?
