Blogmas Day 5 | Top 10 Christmas Songs

One of my favourite things to do at Christmas is listening to Christmas songs whether these are at a Carol Service or on the radio, it’s a definite must when decorating my home for Christmas. I found it difficult to arrange these into any order so here are my Top 10 Favourite Christmas songs …

Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas – Frank Sinatra
A lot of various artists has covered this song, my favourite is either Sam Smith or the original classic from Frank Sinatra. It is probably my favourite festive song; it literally warms my heart and puts a smile on my face whenever I hear it.

Fairytale of New York – The Pogues ft. Kirsty McColl
I am a huge fan of The Pogues, Christmas and New York so this song is an absolute dream for me. I love the traditional Irishness you can hear in the song and reminds me of my Mum so yes, this song had to make it onto the list.

Last Christmas – Wham
Absolute classic. I sang this once at a school concert with two friends and literally cannot enjoy Christmas without listening to this song. The story behind the song is quite sad but I do love it.

All Alone On Christmas – Darlene Love
This is one of the songs in my favourite Christmas film, Home Alone 2: Lost In New York. Whenever I hear the opening melody, my eyes light up. It takes me back to the thousands of times I’ve watched the film and the music video is amazing (I recommend YouTubing it now).

All I Want for Christmas Is You – Mariah Carey
The opening tune from the xylophone is probably the most exciting sequence in history. Everyone instantly knows what song it is and again gets me feeling festive. I sang this song as a duet one Christmas at a school concert and it will always remind me of her.

Merry Christmas Everyone – Shakin’ Stevens
A bit of fun but oh how I love it. This song gets me up to have a little boogie while decorating the tree at home.

Christmas (Baby Please Come Home) – Darlene Love
Probably better known as a song from Michael Bublé’s Christmas album, this song is just so lovely. It makes me think of everyone who can’t be at home for Christmas and reminds me of how lucky I am each year.

Do They Know It’s Christmas? – Band Aid
I love this song; it involves so many singers and was recorded for such a good cause. Again, this takes me back to when I sang this at a Care Home as part of the School Choir. Christmas is a time to give back to people and is part of the reason why I love it so much.

The Christmas Song – Nat King Cole
Taking it back to the original Christmas songs, this is a firm favourite of mine. I love the lyrics and it reminds me of what Christmas was like back in the olden days.

Cold December Night – Michael Bublé
Michael Bublé’s Christmas album is so dreamy and a firm favourite at Christmas time for so many people. I had never heard this song before so I’m guessing it’s an original, it’s so festive and reminds me of my beautiful boyfriend.

What are your favourite Christmas songs? Let me know!
